Project Accessory The Run Down.

Oh, the challenges the contestants faced to make it to the final 3, there was the cat suit challenge, hand bag challenge, beach junk challenge, the Kenneth Cole challenge, and the Bug challenge. Some very successful outcomes, some not so much. As the count down to the end approached I began to narrow down my two favorite although I must admit it did change a few times. Ultimately my two favorites to win it all were Nina and Rich. In a somewhat surprising ending Brian took it all. Although Bryan is quite talented, he was often hit or miss with me and in the end I was just not in love with the final pieces he produced. I am eager to see what he puts out for the general public.

Here is a peek at the winning designs Brian produced: Brian

The show had some hits and misses and it definitely has some kinks to work out. I noticed on the PA blogs many people suggested the producers should not bring this show back. I actually disagree. I think Project Accessory has potential. It was the first crack at a show of this type and I think they should give it another try. If the producers take into account some of the suggestions of the viewers and lessons learned from watching the show unfold,  I think the show could work. It its a wonderful platform for little known accessories designers to get noticed. I'm willing to give it another chance, allow them to work out the kinks and see where this goes. No word on season 2 yet but I'm keeping my eyes and ears peeled. Congratulations to Brian on the win and to all the contestant for making the cut! I'm sure quite a few of the contestants will take that 15 minutes of fame and run with it! This type of exposure can lead to great opportunity and I am wishing all the contestants all the best in their careers.

Watch Episode 8 the Finale

What did you think of Project Accessory? What would you change about the show? Who was your favorite to win it all? Would you tune in for season 2?

Holy Shoe Challenge - Project Accessory Episode 2.

Holy shoe challenge Project Accessory!

Really, in the second episode you throw shoe making out there? That’s crazy; I would have died for sure! Considering a number of contestants never even made a shoe I was impressed with their ability to simply dig in and figure it all out. Way to go guys that is what it’s all about after all!

Don't even let me get started on the "magical" shopping trip! LOVE The SWAROVSKI CRYSTALLIZED™ Concept Store! Lawd if someone would let me loose in that store I would clean the entire place out! I really liked what Brian Burkhardt did, those shoes were freggin amazing.... hey Brian I wear a size 8! ;) And the Bag <3 yes please! And I was digging the "not so simple" single earring I'm not so sure what judge Ariel Foxman was talking about. Brian was my favorite this round for sure.

Good Karma is spilling all over James Sommerfeldt for being so willing to share his knowledge with his competitors! Way to go James and congratulations on the win.

I was all over this episode! I cannot wait for the next! If you missed Episode 2 check it out below!

Talk back! Tell me what you think of  Project Accessory episode 2!

NOVEMBER IS PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!

Fact: Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States—and has the highest mortality rate of all the major cancers.

Fact: An estimated 76% of patients will die within one year of diagnosis.

Cancer of the pancreas is sometimes called a “silent” disease because symptoms are not usually present in early stages. Many patients have advanced disease by the time it becomes noticeable to the patient and the doctors.

Thanksgiving Day 1996 my mother was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer...by the time doctors discovered the cancer it was already metastasized into her liver and other major organs... December 16, 1996 she passed away.

Fact: Pancreatic cancer research is drastically under-funded and as a result, relatively few researchers are investigating the disease as compared with researchers focusing on breast cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, etc.

In memory of my mother and all the people that have lost and continue to fight the battle with this cancer, please help us support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Help us raise funds for education and research so another person does not have to sit by and watch a loved one slip away to this disease.
During the Month of November, a portion of ALL Fezelry Jewelry www.fezelry.com sales will be donated directly to The Pancreatic Action Network.

Of course it is not about jewelry sales but raising awareness and funds, we also encourage you to consider donating directly to The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network: http://pancan.org/section_donate/donate_now.php if you select to make a donation directly to PANCAN e-mail us the confirmation and we will give you 10% off any future Fezerly Jewelry Purchase as a thank you!

Spread the word and get the facts about Pancreatic Cancer (The Silent Disease) http://www.pancan.org/index.php

Thank you -

Finding Your Passion 24hrMom talks with Christine Haynes of Fezelry Jewlery designs

I was invited to be a guest on The 24hrmom Online Radio Show with host Luva Alverez, on the show we discussed finding your passion.  For several years, I have been cultivating my passion into a business while also balancing being a wife and mother working several "day jobs" and at one time being a full time student.  During the interview I share how my passion found me, and how a sponsorship from a very dear friend jump started it all.  I share my story, of how I started selling my handmade jewelry creations out of a messenger bag and how small steps took my jewelry from the messenger bag to magazines, and celebrities. I offer real advice for others looking to take that step and start a business. Special thank you to 24hr Mom and show host Luva Alverez for having me on the show it was a pleasure!

    Gemstone Inclusions= Beauty&Value:

Did you know? Gemstone Inclusions= Beauty&Value:
Although some may think inclusions are imperfections that detract from a gems beauty some gems are more beautiful and valuable because of the inclusions they contain. Two examples are Amber and Demantoid Garnet, natural amber will almost always have some type of inclusion trapped within, every now and then you may even find a bug trapped inside! Another beautiful example is a Demantoid Garnet, Demantoid’s contain what are referred to as horsetail inclusions these look like radiating needles within the stone this is a telltale signature of this rare stone.
                 Amber                         Demantoid Garnet
Next time you look at a gemstone appreciate the beauty the inclusions and imperfections can bring give them some love <3.

Christine Haynes will be a guest on the 24hrmom Show !

Mark your calendars Thursday April 7th 2011@ 1pm EST! Christine Haynes will be a guest on the 24hrmom Online Radio Show ! More details coming soon!

    Did you Know?

Did you know? I am sure you know that gemstones come in every color you can possibly imagine, but did you know that one gem variety can have many different hues? Hue, is another term for color variery. An example of a gem with a variety of different hues is the Sapphire, most people think of sapphire they think blue however, there is also pink sapphire, yellow sapphire, white, even orange! We refer to these as "fancy."

    4 C's of Colored Gemstones?

The question I get most often: "There are 4c's of diamond buying, are there 4c's of colored gemstones too?" Yes there is! Colored gemstones just like diamonds are graded and selected based on cut, color, clarity, and carat weight.
I am going to give a brief explanation of each as it relates to colored gemstones.

    Color

Color is the one of the most important value-setting factors for colored gemstones. All gemstones have what is referred to as a preferred color range. The more the color varies from this range ie: lighter or darker, more vivid or less—the less valuable the stone. Color is composed of three dimensions: hue, tone, and saturation.

Hue refers to the impression of color usually noticed immediately, such as red, yellow or blue.

Tone refers to the degree of lightness or darkness of an object.
Saturation defines the degree of purity of a hue.

    Cut

Cut refers to the shape of a stone, its facets, and the precision of the stone's proportions and finishing.
The beauty of a gem is revealed in the cut. Gemstones are most often cut into shapes such as oval, emerald, pear, and round however, they can be carved into almost any design imaginable. Proportions involve the designs balance. Finish refers to the detail and workmanship. You are looking for a stone with a well-proportioned cut and smooth finish. A better cut stone will always be more valuable.

    Carat Weight

(I had to refer back to the GIA on carat weight I still have a hard time remembering these rules, this data is directly from the GIA website)

The size of a gemstone is measured, not by its dimensions, but by weight. One carat, the traditional unit of measurement for gemstones, is equal to approximately 0.2 grams. You may also hear the weight of a gemstone referred to in points. A point is equal to 1/100 of a carat; therefore a 75-point gemstone equals 0.75 carat. Two different gemstones may have the same dimensions but different weights. This is due to the specific gravity or density of the gem mineral. This difference can help gemologists identify a gemstone.
Up to a certain point, the larger a stone is, the more rare it is and the higher the price it will command. For stones that commonly occur in larger sizes, the value may decrease if the gem reaches a size that makes it impractical for jewelry use.
    Source: Gemological Institute of America

    Clarity

Clarity refers to a gemstone’s relative freedom from clarity characteristics. Clarity characteristics include inclusions within the gem, or blemishes found on the surface. The fewer clarity characteristics, the more rare the gemstone. Each variety of gemstone has its own clarity standards. For example, Amber almost always contains clarity characteristics as does Emerald. With the exception of gemstones that traditionally contain clarity characteristics you want a stone that is "eye clean" of inclusions and blemishes this means they can not be easily detected by the naked eye.

There are actually several different clarity types I will discuss theses in a later post.
